The Vision
An Atlanta that Thrives without Violence!
Mission Statement
To support and advocate for evidence-based and innovative violence prevention strategies and initiatives.
History
The Metropolitan Atlanta Violence Prevention Partnership (MAVPP) is a coordinated violence prevention network with a mission to create the “Beloved Community" of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Established in 2006 by Dr. James Parker Griffin, Jr., a professor at the Morehouse School of Medicine Prevention Research Center, MAVPP was created as a scientifically credible response to violence such as the post-funeral shootings at Victory Baptist Church, the beating death of Bobby Tilman at a youth party in Douglas County, and the kidnapping and rape of two twelve year old girls in the Pittsburgh Community. With the recent surge of violence in our communities as a result of the shooting deaths of Jimmy Atchison, Rayshard Brooks, and Secoriea Turner, the need continues for a collaborative strategic approach to violence prevention.
